Systemic investing is rapidly emerging as a critical framework for navigating the complexity of the 21st-century global economy.
Systemic investing is rapidly emerging as a critical framework for navigating the complexity of the 21st-century global economy. Yet today, capital allocation still largely follows fragmented, short-term approaches—failing to adequately address the interconnected nature of environmental, social, and economic systems.
This Insight Paper, produced following discussions at the Wealth & Family Office Forum – Davos Edition 2026, explores one of the most pressing questions of our time: How can capital be deployed to support long-term planetary health while generating resilient and sustainable returns?
The panelists that participated in this panel and workshop are:
Stefan E. Germann — CEO, Ursimone Wietlisbach Foundation; Board Member, Blue Earth Capital
Jaqueline Gil — CEO, Amplia Mundo; PhD Researcher in Sustainable Development, Climate and Future Scenarios for Travel and Tourism
Rudolf Hilti — Founding Chair, System Change Foundation; Founding Board Member, reState Foundation
Anastasia Kalinina — Co-founder & CEO, reState Foundation; Senior Advisor on Partnerships, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
Pablo Lobo — Founder & CEO, Sthorm.io; Founder, Planetary X; Founder and Board Member, Global Pandemic Shield
Nathanial Matthews — CEO & Co-Founder, PlanetaryX
Drawing on perspectives from foundation leaders, system thinkers, investors, and sustainability experts, the paper examines the limitations of traditional investment models in the face of a global polycrisis—ranging from climate change and biodiversity loss to rising inequality and geopolitical instability.
It highlights critical gaps, including the underallocation of capital toward nature-based solutions, regeneration, and resilience, while also identifying emerging opportunities in systemic capital deployment, cross-sector collaboration, and long-term value creation aligned with planetary boundaries.
The report concludes that systemic investing is not simply an evolution of impact investing—it represents a fundamental shift in how capital is understood and deployed. Aligning financial systems with planetary health is essential not only for societal well-being but also for safeguarding economic stability and long-term portfolio performance.
The paper outlines concrete recommendations for investors, family offices, policymakers, and ecosystem builders to accelerate the transition toward a more resilient, regenerative, and inclusive global economy.
